09/07/2009Verizon Blocks Port 25

Starting midnight September 8th, 2009, Verizon DSL customers will no longer be able to send out e-mail via port 25. This will not cause issues for Verizon DSL customers with verizon.net e-mail addresses, but those customers using third-party e-mail accounts. Third-party e-mail accounts include g-mail, yahoo, hotmail, any domain hosted with Cline Communications and many more.

Customers will want to go into the advanced settings of their e-mail clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.) and change the outgoing mail port to use SSL and port 465 instead of port 25. Port 465 has been opened by Cline Communications for customers to connect on via a SSL connection. This is required for all Verizon DSL customers to continue to use Cline Communications' e-mail services. Other providers may require a different port setting, please contact those providers for additional information.

Any other questions regarding your e-mail services, please contact Cline Communications at 1-877-943-DATA (3282).
